                  Remember:
                  ● You will always be able to find the answer by reading the text; you are not expected to use your own knowledge.
                  ● There is always at least one TRUE, one FALSE and one NOT GIVEN answer.
                  ● You should scan the text for key words to help you locate the information you need and then read the relevant section
carefully to see if it corresponds with the information in the statement.

                  Method:
                  (i) Look at the title of the text and the information below it to get an idea of what it might be about (this helps
you to contextualise the questions and gets your mind processing any background knowledge you have to
help you predict and/or absorb the content of the passage more easily).
(ii) Read the text quickly to get an idea of what it is about; don’t dwell on words you do not understand
(this is called reading for gist).
(iii) Look at the questions and underline the key words.
(iv) Use the key words to help you find where in the passage the information related to question 1 is found, then
read this information carefully to help you decide your answer.
                  (v) Repeat for the remaining questions.

             TASK INFORMATION: FLOW-CHART COMPLETION
This task requires you to understand a description of a process or sequence of events. You must:
                    (i) scan the text to locate specific information - use the words in the flow-chart to help you.
(ii) find the required number of words and/or a number in the text for each question and copy them into the relevant gap.

                 Remember:
All the information you need to complete the flow-chart will be contained in the text, but it may not necessarily be
in the same order as it is asked for in the flow-chart.
Always check the instructions and make sure you write the correct number of words in each gap.
Parts of the flow-chart that do not have a gap can be used to help you locate the information in the text needed
                    to answer the next question.
The flow-chart may relate to information in all or part of the passage.
You cannot change the word(s), or the form of the word(s), you copy in any way; they must be exactly as
                    they appear in the text.

                   Method:
                   (i) Look at the instructions and make a mental note of how many words you must write.
(ii) Read the heading of the flow-chart; this will help you find the part of the text you need.
(iii) Read the flow-chart and underline the key words in each question.
(iv) Decide what kind(s) of word(s) you may need to fill each gap (i.e. noun, verb, adjective etc.).
                   (v) Scan the text to find the part(s) you need and then read it carefully.
(vi) Underline the word(s) in the text which fit(s) the gap.
(vii) Copy them into the gap and read the sentence to make sure that it makes sense.
                                                                                                             7
